Product Description

Epifanes Combi Filler Tube 225g (CFW.T) is a traditional one‑component knifing filler based on alkyd resin, formulated for leveling small surface imperfections in one‑component paint systems on wood or steel above the waterline. It features a fine, smooth structure and excellent sandability.

Combi Filler is ideal for filling minor dents, scratches, and irregularities between primer coats or prior to applying the first finishing topcoat. Apply in thin layers only (maximum 1mm per coat). For deeper filling, apply multiple thin layers, sanding between coats.

Sandable and recoatable after approximately 24 hours at 68°F. Convenient 225‑gram tube with resealable cap prevents drying and waste.

SMSDistributors Expert Notes

  • Apply in very thin layers only. Combi Filler is designed for fine surface correction, not bulk filling. Keeping each layer under 1mm ensures proper drying and prevents shrink‑back under topcoats.
  • Always sand with P280 between filler layers. This grit level is ideal for leveling without scratching surrounding primer. Coarser grits can telegraph through finish coats and create visible texture. We offer 280 grit sheet abrasives. If you do not have access to this grit, 320 grit is your next best choice.
  • Pre‑coating is essential. After sanding the final filler layer, apply a 15–20% thinned finish coat before your full topcoat. This prevents moisture absorption and eliminates dull “sink‑in” spots in the final finish.
  • Use the correct primer underneath. Combi Filler performs best over Epifanes Multi Marine Primer.
  • Watch temperature and dew point. The substrate must be at least 5°F above dew point. Applying filler on a cool or marginal surface can cause adhesion failure or extended drying times.
  • Ideal for spot repairs. Combi Filler excels at small imperfections — screw holes, dents, sanding scratches, and minor leveling. For larger fairing jobs, a dedicated epoxy fairing compound is more appropriate.
  • Tube format prevents waste. The 225g tube is perfect for small projects or touch‑ups. Unlike tins, the tube minimizes air exposure and keeps the filler fresh longer.
  • Do not apply wet‑in‑wet. Allow each layer to fully dry before sanding and recoating. Wet‑in‑wet application traps solvents and leads to soft spots under the finish coat.
  • Best used above the waterline. Combi Filler is an alkyd‑based filler and should not be used below the waterline or in areas subject to constant moisture.
