Epifanes Rapidclear Clear Semi‑Gloss Quick Drying Varnish (RCC.750) provides fast, easy wood protection with no sanding required between coats when recoated within 72 hours. Rapidclear is a one‑component urethane‑based wood finish designed for quick recoating, excellent durability, and a beautiful clear semi‑gloss appearance.

Rapidclear is nearly identical to Epifanes Rapidcoat, with the only difference being that Rapidclear is clear rather than tinted. It enhances the natural grain of the wood without altering color.

Use Rapidclear as a stand‑alone quick‑drying semi‑gloss system or as a fast‑drying impregnating base coat prior to applying traditional varnish systems such as Epifanes Clear Gloss Varnish or Woodfinish Gloss/Matte.

Surface Preparation & Application

Bare Wood:

Degrease with acetone
Sand bare wood with 180 grit
Clean again before applying Rapidclear
First coat: apply Rapidclear directly, no thinning required

Existing Varnish:

Clean and degrease with denatured alcohol
Sand with 320 grit
Apply at least 2 coats of Rapidclear

Application:

Use a long‑haired soft brush or spray
Roller application is not advised
Distribute evenly and tip‑off along the grain
Avoid retipping and excessive wet film thickness
Do not apply wet‑on‑wet
If varnish “pulls,” add up to 10% thinner
Up to 10% Epifanes Mahogany or Teak Stain may be added for color adjustment

System Build‑Up

Rapidclear can be used as a complete finishing system (5–6 coats) or as a fast‑drying base coat prior to high‑gloss varnish.

Full Rapidclear System: Apply 5–6 coats, thinning 0–5% as needed
Sanding: Not required between coats unless >72 hours; for smoother finish, lightly sand with a scuff pad
High Gloss Option: Sand final Rapidclear coat with 220 grit and apply 2+ coats of Epifanes Clear Gloss or Woodfinish Gloss
